Humran bin A’yun, one of the companions of Imam al-Baqir (AS) and Imam al-Sadiq (AS), is recognized as a Quranic reciter in Islamic sources. He was highly regarded by the jurists among the Imamiyya, and Sunni scholars also acknowledged his strong adherence to Shi’ism. The Imams praised him extensively, and numerous narrations attributed to him are found in Imamiyya sources. He is also known to have transmitted Quranic readings (qira’at) from the Imams, with reports indicating that Imam al-Sadiq (AS) referred to him during a debate concerning Quranic readings (qira’at). Humran was among the teachers of Hamzah al-Zayyat, one of the Seven Qira’at Reciters (Qurra’ Sab’a), and his readings (qira’at) have been discussed in Sunni literature. Given his esteemed position among the Imamiyya, his connection to the Imams (AS), and the potential relationship of his reading (qir’at) to the Imams, it is essential to analyze his reading (qir’at), its characteristics, and its formation. Additionally, the relationship between his reading (qir’at) and that of Hamzah al-Zayyat should be clarified, and the possibility of reconstructing Humran’s reading (qir’at) should be assessed. It appears that Humran’s reading (qir’at) may have had significant connections to Imam al-Baqir (AS) and ultimately linked back to the readings (qira’at) transmitted from Imam Ali (AS) and Ibn Mas’ud. Over time, his reading (qir’at) seems to have been absorbed into Hamzah’s reading (qir’at) and did not survive as an independent tradition.
